Your first step is to detemin what product or service your will be selling. The next step is to decide how your want to colect payments if you alredy have a merchent acount some merchentacounts will have an onlin suloution for you to implement and use for online purcheses and if this is not an option from your merchent acount to have realtime processing you may chois to do a credit card captur wich will alow the buyer to enter ther info and then you will need to enter this info into your card terminel for processing this opption will requir your site to have the highest security setings as you will have more sensitive information to secure. The othe soulution would be to choise another merchent acount that provides both a store terminel and and online proceser.
How do I accept credit cards?
You will first need a secure way to accept payment and personal information from your customers. Most shopping cart services and merchant banks have this functionality already in place. You will also need to decide if you want to process your phone, mail and fax orders through your website. If so, you will need a Virtual Terminal, which many e-commerce providers offer for an additional fee.
In order to process and receive the funds, you will need a payment gateway to handle the authorizations and transactions and a merchant account to deposit the funds. Many shopping cart services also offer payment gateway and merchant account services PayPal is the payment processor we recommend as they have Virtual Terminal services available and the ability to deposit funds directly into your checking account daily (AutoSweep). PayPal does not require an additional merchant account which is another great reason to use them.
Another new option is to use google check out this is a unique type of proceser as you will get For every $1 you spend on AdWords, you can process $10 in sales for free. For sales that exceed this amount or if you don't use AdWords, you can process them at a low 2% and $0.20 per transaction. AdWords is a Pay Per Click keyword campain on googles serch engin. The one draw back is that tcurntly there is no option for a vertual terminel and the buyr is taken to google for checkout . To see more about Google Checkout click hear

PayPal is an excellent and affordable payment processing solution. PayPal charges 2.9% + $0.30 USD per transaction for monthly sales under $3000 with no hidden monthly charges. If you have more the $3000 in monthly PayPal sales, the rates are even more affordable. If you need a Virtual Terminal to process phone, mail and fax orders PayPal charges $20/month + per transaction fees.
