New Site Construction

New Site Construction

If you are new to the web and do not currently have a website, we can help you create one from scratch. We have several packages available ranging in price and scale depending on the size of your web project. If your needs are not matched by a package, we would be glad to develop a customized quote free of charge.

In general, the design process for a new site includes the following client responsibilities:

  1. Fill out client questionnaire and/or contact Suloff Designs staff to discuss your website vision and needs.
We usually achieve this first step through a series of phone calls, emails or in-person meetings. At this stage, you should have a fairly good idea of the number of pages you require, how many lines of text and images, and any special features you may need including databases, e-commerce, newsletters, etc. You should also consider the scope and type of web marketing that you require (e.g. linking campaigns, banner ads, search engine optimization). We will use this information to prepare a proposal for your project.

  2. When you receive your proposal and contract from Suloff Designs, review both carefully.

  3. Meet with Suloff Designs staff to discuss your proposal, review and sign your contract, make a down payment and finalize start date for your project.

  4. Gather text and information that you would like to include on your website.
Send us the information in digital format or give it to us in "paper" format and we will input the data for you (additional fee). Preferred file types include Word (.doc), Excel (.xls), WordPad or NotePad (.txt), or PDF.

  5. Send us any photos or images that you would like to include on your site.
Images may include logos, product or site photos, other graphics. Preferred image file formats include: .jpeg, .gif, .png, .tif, .psd. Don"t have images in digital format? We can scan images from print, negative or slide sources for your website. The number of image scans to be included for your site will be specified in your proposal and image scan limits associated with our packages accommodate most clients' needs. Excessive image scan requests will be charged an additional fee.

  6. Decide how you want the navigation of your site to be configured.
How will the pages be associated with each other and how will your visitors "travel" between pages? What will the "map" of your site look like? Nothing is more frustrating than visiting a website and getting lost because you can't easily find information of interest. We will work closely with you to offer suggestions on how to best manage your information and most importantly, create a pleasant site surfing experience for your visitors.

  7. Decide on the overall look for your homepage.
This is where your personal design preferences come into play. We need to know what colors you prefer, what tone/mood you want to set, your font preferences, etc. If you are unsure about where to begin, we suggest surfing the web and bookmarking sites that you like. From there, we will work with you to develop a homepage that has the look and feel that you are seeking.

  8. Approve final draft of homepage.
We will develop a prototype of your homepage and you will give us feedback on the prototype. From there, we will revise within reason until you are satisfied with the project. Please note that major changes on the homepage from this point forward will be difficult and will incur significant additional fees. It is important that you are comfortable with the homepage before we move on from here.

  9. Continue to work with Suloff Designs staff as the rest of the site is "filled in."
We will take the home page design and then create the "skeleton" for the rest of the site based on the homepage design & layout and the sitemap that was created earlier. You will have an opportunity to provide input and view the site's progress throughout this stage.

  10. If you require web marketing or search engine optimization, decide on keyword strings and search engines that you would like to use.
For example, if you are an icecream business in New York City, a keyword string that you would select is "NYC icecream." Also, identify any sites on the internet that you would like to advertise on using banner or other ads or that you want to link from. We will take it from there and show you the final ranking results.

  11. Review final website and approve.
When the final product is finished, we ask that you review it carefully to look for any errors, omissions, etc. that we may have missed. When you are satisfied, we will declare the site "finished" and bill you for your balance.

  12. Choose a hosting company.

  13. Pay your balance and give us feedback on your design experience.

  14. Learn to use Suloff Designs client portal to monitor your website statistics.
You can log on to our website to check stats including # of visitors to site, most "hit"areas, etc.

  15. Decide on a maintenance plan if needed.
If you know that your site will require regular updating, it may be more cost efficient to sign up for a maintenance plan. Most Suloff Designs clients are on a maintenance plan of 2-50 hours per month. Clients use their maintenance time to update news & text, add new products, and for search engine optimization. Regular changes made to a website can help raise its position on search engine rankings, so it is recommended that you change the content of your site fairly frequently.
