Link Popularity measures the quantity and/or quality of sites that link back to your web page.
The diagram below shows how many links are coming to the the listed site from other websites.

The top search engines view a link to your web page as a "vote" for your page. It is not only the volume of links to your page that is important, but the quality and relevance of the pages that link to your page. The more quality, relevant incoming links to your page, the higher your rankings on the major search engines. Therefore, it is important that you identify sites related to your industry or business that would create an opportunity for you to link from.
For example, you could contact your trade organization, local chamber of commerce or other sources to request or purchase links to your site from their respective pages. For example, if your website deals with "woodworking," you could try to get listed on www.woodworking.com, which is ranked number 1 on Google for that keyword and has a 5/10 link ranking. Having a link on this highly ranked sited would be more beneficial for your ranking than linking from a site that has a 1/10 link rating.
